Geography

In geography you will be teaching children about other parts of the world and the way other people live. You will be trying to develop an understanding of different ways of life and the reasons for them. Here again you will be trying to get children to imagine what it is like to live somewhere very different from Britain, perhaps somewhere very hot or very cold, somewhere where water is in short supply and where the nearest town is far away and then comparing this with their home environment. Language work will include words for different geographical features such as mountain, hill, valley, north, south, etc. Some work will involve skills in using and interpreting maps and globes, understanding and using scale and conventional signs. Concept development will involve developing some understanding of weather and climate, the effect of different terrain and how they influence the life of people there. Here again you will be looking to develop interest and enthusiasm.
